Old Flame Chapter 1.1

“We know that, Blair.” Luca sounded annoyed. “You look beautiful, by the way.”

Blair rolled her eyes and picked up her purse. Luca had been flirting with her ever since they’d been paired together and apparently, she hadn’t rebuffed him enough because he still wouldn’t leave her alone. She had a tiny camera along with her microphone and it snapped a photo of her surroundings every few minutes. It must have snapped a photo when she was looking in the mirror for him to know how she looked. “Thank you, Luca, now be quiet because I don’t want people to think that I am a mad woman talking to myself.”

Blair heard him chuckle as she opened the door and made her way down to the foyer of the hotel. All the wedding guests were convening on the corridor, waiting for the cue to go out to the seats on the beach. The gentle pull of the wind ruffled her hair as she looked around at the faces of the people decked out in their cool colors for the semi-formal event.

The event was expected to be filled with key players in the child trafficking ring that the Bureau was investigating. Based on intelligence that Blair gathered so far, the bride-to-be was more integral to their ring than the FBI thought. She was the one who went with her soon-to-be husband, Ian, to soften the parents who wish to give their children better lives, then the children disappeared and no one saw them again. Blair was so close to busting them and she just wanted them or even one of their criminal guests to slip up and give her the information she needed. All she had to do was to find out where the kids were being taken and her job would be done. They didn’t want to bust them without getting all the information.

“Hopefully a little booze will loosen their tongues,” she said under her breath. The clock ticked one as she gazed around at the organza decorations. She recognized some familiar faces from hanging out with Melody over the past few months and though she knew that they were involved in the trafficking, they needed concrete proof that could nail them in court. She itched to accept one of the offered glasses of champagne but she knew that she couldn’t. She had to remain sober while on the job.

“Blair, is that you?” Blair almost wet herself when she heard someone call her name and touched her on the shoulder.
